Foreword
Preface
Acknowledgement
This book, "Foundations for Industrial Crushing Mills" is written in the form of Design Aids primarily for practising engineers. The book shares the author's long experience on the subject and focuses on the physical understanding of dynamics applied to mill foundations. The book covers fundamentals necessary for understanding and evaluating dynamic response of mill foundations and lists out sequential steps that are needed for the design of MILL FOUNDATIONS with prime focus on achieving satisfactory performance of the Mill and all associated machinery for which the foundation is designed.
Besides the design philosophy, it covers modelling and analysis of the Mill- Foundation system with focus on i) Modelling of the Mill and the Foundation, ii) Besides Classical Methods, it addresses Various Analysis Techniques using Finite Element Methods and other Structural Design Methods. Precautions during Construction of the foundation are also briefly addressed.
It is the author's concerned observation that in most cases, due recognition of System Data viz. Machine data, Foundation data and Geo-technical data, is lacking. Further, the interaction between foundation designer and machine manufacturer is also found lacking. Such interaction is not only desirable but essential too and would definitely improve the performance of machine on as well as that of foundation.
It is considered implied that the designer shall take necessary help and guidance from geo-technical counterpart in selecting dynamic soil/ pile parameters for foundation design. It is anticipated that this book shall serve as a design tool for professionals engaged in the design of mill foundations. The author is confident that the book will be beneficial to Practising Engineers, Students, Academicians/ Researchers as well as to Industry.
The text is covered in Eight Chapters:
